A couple of Piper PA-A-32R-300 Lance, LQ-MDF, (C/N AR32R-7780360/AR4036), & LQ-MGI, (C/N AR32R-7880067/AR0544), were bought by the Policía de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (PBA) in 1978, after an acquired Bell 206 was rejected. LQ-MDF was built in the U.S.A. and indeed was the Piper demostrator in Latin America and was sold after a demonstration at La Plata. On the other side, LQ-MGI is Argentinean built by Chincul. On July 19, 2002, about 1300 UTC, LQ-MGI, had a propeller hub failure and blade separation while doing a maintenance run up at the Metropolitan Area Airport in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The aircraft received major damage to the engine cowling and support as well as the frontal landing gear, and no injuries were reported. The aircraft can be considered withdrawn from usage.
