Argentinean Coast Guard CASA 212-300PM. (ALAS)

Some five CASA 212 Aviocar are in service with the Prefectura Naval Argentina (PNA).

The first two to arrive, PA-61 (C/N A68-1-382) and PA-62 (C/N A68-2-383), bought brand new in 1989, were of the CASA 212-300 model and are used for the general purpose utility and cargo transport as replacements for the Shorts CS-7 Skyvan which were no longer serviceable due to lack of spares from the UK. Both of these utilitarian CASA 212-300 can be equipped with the 300 kg (empty weight) Micronair MA-67 aerosol dispersion system which can deliver up to 2,000 lts of oil dispersing chemicals large enough to fight an oil spill of 20 hectares.

The last three, PA-71 (C/N S68-1-399), PA-72 (C/N S68-2-400) and PA-73 (C/N S68-3-401) however, are of the specialised CASA 212-300PM Patrullero, model which is optimized for maritime patrol. They were also bought brand new, in September 1988 and delivered in 1990. These are equipped with the Litton AN/APS-128D search radar which can detect a snorkel up to 54 Km with sea state 3, recording cameras with position and time and the assorted flares. The radar console of PA-72 can be seen in the photograph on the right. They also normally use two auxiliary tanks with 500 lts each that provide a flight autonomy of 10 hours. They have proven to be very successful, with no operational accidents, being able to monitor 13,500 ships during the 1990-1995 period. Some 600 of those ships were in infraction of the law and were properly fined, which is more than enough to pay for these aircraft.

All of the aircraft are normally based at B.A. San Fernando, in the Provincia de Buenos Aires, and belong to the Escuadrilla de Alas Fijas (EAF).
