This is a highly dependable gas-operated loading rifle with select fire built for all tactical situations where tightness is a challenge, such as special operations or air assault. Basically, it is compact in size but big on firepower with a 5.56 x 45 mm calibre, in the same class as the russian AKS-74U or German H&K 53 and G36C. The SIG Commando 552-2 P features an ambidextrous safety lever; select fire (1-3-full); a folding stock; lightweight, transparent magazines; and a patented system of magazine stacking and easy changing. Due to the short barrel and resulting short gas piston rod, the main spring in SIG 552 was relocated to the receiver, behind the bolt carrier group, so the bolt carrier of the SIG 552 is not 100% similar to the bolt carriers of the SIG 550 and 551. The main default is that it is quickly uncontrollable in full-automatic fire. All SIG 550/551/552 rifles are equipped with semi-translucent plastic magazines that can be clamped together for faster reloading.
The SIG Commando 552-2 P is for Law Enforcement or Government Agency purchase only. This rifle is being used in Argentina by the Grupo Especial de Operaciones Federales (GEOF) of the Policía Federal Argentina (PFA).
