Honduras is the second largest country in Central America with 112,090 km2. It has a large Caribbean Sea coastline and a reduced one on the Pacific, basically limited to the Golfo de Fonseca. The terrain is composed of mostly mountains in the interior and of some narrow coastal plains. The climate is largely subtropical with some hints of moderate in the highlands. Honduras shares 256 km of borders with Guatemala on the west, 342 km with El Salvador on the south-west and 922 km with Nicaragua on the south and south-east.
